Roadside Assistance FAQ
Practical answers for when something goes wrong on the road — and how to get help with RoadLift in Mississauga and Brampton.
Breakdowns & emergencies
Check for clicking or dim dashboard lights — both point to a dead battery, and a battery boost usually fixes it. If the engine cranks normally but will not start, or a boost does not help, request a tow to a mechanic.
Pull over somewhere safe and away from traffic, turn on your hazards and check whether you have a usable spare. With a spare, request flat-tire assistance. Without one, request a tow to a tire shop.
Check other doors and the trunk, and whether anyone has a spare key. If not, request car lockout help. If a child or pet is inside and could be in danger, call 911 first.
Pull over safely and turn on your hazards. Request fuel delivery and a driver brings enough gasoline to get you to the nearest station.
Make sure everyone is safe and call 911 if anyone is hurt. In Ontario, report collisions to police as required. If your car cannot be driven and it is on a city street, you can request a tow in RoadLift.
RoadLift serves city streets, parking lots and residential areas. Pickups on 400-series highways (including the 401, 403, 407 and 410) and the QEW are handled by OPP-contracted tow operators — if you break down on a highway, get to safety and call *OPP (*677) or 911.
