When to request towing
A boost did not start the car
If a battery boost did not bring the engine back, the problem is likely the starter, alternator or fuel system. A tow gets the car to a mechanic without causing more damage.
Warning lights, smoke or strange noises
Overheating, a grinding transmission or an oil-pressure warning are reasons to stop driving. Towing is cheaper than the repair bill from pushing on.
Flat tire with no usable spare
If your spare is missing or also flat, or a rim is damaged, a tow to a tire shop is usually the safest option.
Moving a car that will not run
Project cars, cars that failed a safety, or a vehicle you are selling — schedule a tow in advance and pick the time that suits you.

How much does towing cost?
Towing starts at $150, which includes the first 12 km. After that it is $4 per km. The app calculates the full price from your pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you confirm.
Distance
First 12 km included; $4/km after that.
Vehicle size
+$15 for SUVs, +$25 for pickup trucks and vans.
Dollies
+$50 when wheel dollies are needed — e.g. an AWD/4WD that cannot be put in neutral, or wheels that will not roll.
Long tows
Tows over 100 km include a return-trip surcharge, shown in the estimate.
Travel fee
The search starts with drivers within 5 km. If nobody nearby accepts, it widens 5 km at a time up to 25 km, adding $10 each time (up to $40). The app always shows the current price.

No. 400-series highways and the QEW are OPP-contracted tow zones, so the app does not dispatch to them. If you break down on a highway, get to safety and call *OPP (*677) or 911. RoadLift can help once you are on a city street, in a parking lot or at home.
Many auto insurance policies include towing or roadside coverage. RoadLift gives you an itemised receipt in the app that you can submit with a claim.
