Locked Your Keys in Your Car in Mississauga? Here's What to Do
· Mississauga
It happens to almost everyone: the door shuts and you see your keys on the seat. Here is what to do in the first few minutes.
If a child or pet is inside
Call 911 immediately if a child, vulnerable adult or pet is locked inside — especially in summer heat or winter cold. Emergency services respond to this as an emergency. Do not wait for roadside help.
Check the obvious first
- Try every door and the trunk — one may be unlocked.
- Ask whether anyone at home has a spare key.
- If your car has a connected app (many newer models do), you may be able to unlock it from your phone.
- If your fob battery died, look for a physical key hidden inside the fob.
Avoid DIY tricks
Coat hangers and screwdrivers can scratch paint, tear weather seals and damage wiring inside the door. Breaking a window is expensive and leaves your car exposed.
Request lockout help
In the RoadLift app, choose Car Lockout and pin your location — the row and level if you are in a big lot like Square One or Heartland. A driver approved for lockouts comes with a lockout kit to open the door. You see the price before you confirm and can follow the driver on the map.
