Ran Out of Gas in Mississauga or Brampton? Here's What to Do
· Brampton
The fuel light has been on for a while, and now the engine sputters and dies. Here is what to do next.
Coast to a safe spot
As soon as the engine starts to stumble, signal and steer to the curb, a side street or a parking lot while you still have momentum. Turn on your hazard lights.
Think twice before walking to a station
Walking along a busy road — especially at night or in winter — is risky, and you will need an approved container to carry fuel back. Leaving the car can also mean a ticket if it is in a no-stopping zone.
Request fuel delivery
In the RoadLift app, choose Fuel Delivery and pin your location. A driver brings enough gasoline in an approved container to get you to the nearest station, where you can fill up. Fuel delivery is gasoline only — for a diesel vehicle, request a tow.
Put the wrong fuel in?
Do not start the engine. Adding more fuel will not help and running the engine can cause serious damage. Request a tow to a mechanic who can drain the tank.
